At the launch of the game only a few areas of your ship will be accessible to you. The most obvious spot available is the bridge.

You have bridge officers assigned to your ship, they assist you on the ship as well as away missions ( you start with one bridge officer which you get to choose upon completion of the tutorial mission). Each bridge officer specializes in one specific area (Science, Tactical Engineering.) & they each have one ship skill & one ground skill. You can aquire new bridge officers either from a personnel requisition officer or through completing missions.

Ships in STO are highly customizable, both their functions and looks. The decision about the looks and other components of the ships is left to each player so you will be driving your own hot ride, but the most important thing is it still feels like Star Trek.

There are 3 categories of Starship including Escort Ships, Science Ships and Cruiser Ships. Players are awarded ships by Starfleet as they progress in rank and invest skill points in piloting the ships they’d like to fly.

Once you have reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander, you able to begin choosing from three separate types of ship: Science vessels, Escorts and Cruisers. These ships differ from each other in a number of ways as bridge officer, utility, size weapons abilities and more!
